Where are my recordings?#
From version 1.1 in your Photos library, in the album “Daytape”. Daytape only remembers which clip belongs to which day. There is no account and no server for your clips; we can neither see nor restore your recordings.
From version 1.1 Daytape records only with access to your Photos, because that is where your clips live. Without access the app explains why it needs it and takes you to Settings.
Keeping clips safe#
Clips in Photos are backed up with your photos, for example through iCloud Photos if you turned it on. The details of your days and your profile picture are part of your iPhone backup.
Clips from version 1.0 still live in the app and are excluded from the backup. Under Profil → “Clips nach Fotos verschieben” you move them to your album “Daytape”, clip by clip; you can stop at any time and continue later.
I deleted a clip in Photos#
Don’t delete clips while the day is still running, or they are missing from the day film. If it happened anyway, Daytape shows the clip as missing. Photos keeps it in “Recently Deleted” for 30 days; restore it there and it is back in Daytape right away.
Deleting a clip#
When you delete a clip or a whole day in Daytape, it is also removed from Photos. iOS asks you once in its own dialog. Tap “Don’t Allow” there and nothing changes.
Allowing or changing Photos access#
Settings → Apps → Daytape → Photos. “Full Access” and “Limited Access” both work; Daytape reads only its own clips. We never see your clips: Daytape has no account and never uploads your clips.
Exporting important films#
Open the day and tap “Tagesfilm exportieren” (export day film). The film is saved to your Photos library. Clips that already live in Photos are shared with “Clip teilen” (share clip).
Reinstalling, updating or a new iPhone#
An update from the App Store keeps your recordings. Clips in Photos also remain if you delete the app; clips that live only in the app do not. If you restore a backup on a new iPhone and use iCloud Photos, Daytape finds your clips again.
Cancelling Daytape Pro#
On the iPhone: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Daytape. Or in the app: Profil → Abo verwalten. Cancel at the latest 24 hours before the current period ends, otherwise the subscription renews automatically.
Restoring purchases#
New device? In the app: Profil → Käufe wiederherstellen. You need to be signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with.
Storage#
Under Profil → “Auf diesem Gerät” you can see how much space all your clips take together. Delete single moments or whole days where they are shown. “Temporäre Dateien bereinigen” only removes thumbnails; they are recreated when needed.
